Cedar Livestock was started in the mid 40’s by three or four livestock men. Sales
were held on Saturdays and mostly sold cattle and a few sheep. In the mid 60’s, the
sale barn was purchased by a local cattle buyer, Fred Levanger. Later, Fred sold
the barn to a man from Delta named Knight. LW Gardner from Richfield bought the barn
from Knight and he hired Met Johnson to run the sale in the mid 70’s. Met took over
and bought the barn from Gardner and made many improvements. The Market Grill was
added as well as new pens.
In 1989 Bret and Margo Whittier bought the barn from Met and Lana Johnson. Cedar
Livestock Market continues today with the support of the great livestock people of
Southern Utah, Northern Arizona, and Southeast Nevada.
